Greek Motorcycle License Plate History

Greek motorcycle license plates have changed considerably over the years, making them an interesting detail for classic motorcycle enthusiasts and collectors.

The motorcycle registration series documented by specialist plate archives goes back to 1983. The older motorcycle format used a different plate design from the current style.

1983–2006

The Greek motorcycle plates of this period have a distinctive appearance that is now strongly associated with older motorcycles.

Examples include combinations such as:

YPT 38 KPB 952 ZZB 214

2006 onwards

From 2006, Greek motorcycle plates adopted the newer Euro-style appearance. Contemporary examples include:

GRNMZ 82 GROOT 986

This makes the different generations particularly interesting when restoring a classic motorcycle.

A plate can be part of the bike's identity

On a vintage Harley, Honda, BMW or Yamaha, small details such as the plate, bracket and mounting position can make a significant difference to the final appearance.
